GZF Commemorates Zimbabwe's 31st Independence Day Anniversary

The Global Zimbabwe Forum (GZF) would like to join the rest of the Zimbabwean nation in the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of our independence day.

However, it is with a deep sense of sadness and disappointment that we mark this important day.

In particular, we note with serious concern the on-going suffering of millions of Zimbabweans both at home and abroad due to the never ending socio-economic and political crisis in Zimbabwe.

In this regard we call upon all the leaders of the political parties in Zimbabwe to set aside their personal differences and seek for a common resolution to address all the myriad of problematic issues that have been afflicting our nation for too long now.

Even more importanly, we further note with concern the apparent failure of the all-inclusinve government to harness the developemnt potential of the millions of Zimbabweans living in the Diaspora.

We once again call for a meaningful engagement between the government and the Diaspora community.

On our part as the GZF, we remain committed to supporting the government in its efforts to contructively engage with the Zimbabweans in the Diaspora.

Skillshare Offers Volunteer Opportunities for Young Zimbabweans

Dear All
I work for an international development charity called Skillshare International.  We're based in Leicester and have recently launched a new volunteering programme that may be of interest to you, your organisation and networks.
International Citizen Service (ICS), which is funded by the UK government's Department for International Development, was launched by David Cameron on 9th March 2011.

As part of this initiative, Skillshare International is offering volunteers aged 18-22 the opportunity to spend three months working on development projects and helping to reduce poverty and injustice in Botswana, India, Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland and Tanzania.

The scheme is open to young people from all backgrounds and those with lower family incomes are able to take part for free.  There are also some placements available for volunteers aged 23+ to take part as team leaders.  The programme will give young people the chance to work on real development projects alongside other young people from developing countries.

They will be given training before, during and after their placements overseas and will gain loads of new skills that will set them up for the future, e.g. team work and communication.  This is beneficial to the youths as they embark on their future careers or proceed to university or college.
We are expecting a lot of interest so we really recommend that interested people apply as soon as they can.  If  anyone is interested in doing a placement this summer, they need to apply by mid-April at the very latest.
To find out more about Skillshare International's ICS placements and apply online, please visit www.skillshare.org/ICS - and if you know anyone who might be interested in taking part, please pass the link on!
We're keen to engage young people from the Midlands and anywhere else in the United Kingdom  in the programme and I'd be very grateful if you could share this with your  friends, organisations and  colleagues.  If you need any further clarification please do not hesitate to contact me at the above email address and telephone number below.
Best wishes!
